Good stuff Graham, the old girl will take the strongest headwind in her stride

After a good look I found what I thought to be a leaking exhaust manifold turned out to be a blown head gasket
It was blown out rear of number 4 cylinder. A 6 thou skim and the valves and seats ground the head is back on.
I couldn't get over how little wear was on the bores. The cross hatching is still visible and I could not detect any wear or ridging.
The old dog has done 320,000 k's so I'm pretty happy with the cylinder bore condition.
I noted that the injectors didn't appear to be firing from all their holes so I renewed them as well (couldn't get them overhauled ). The first quote from Landrover was $700 each. After some shopping around I got them for $181 each.
Someone posted on this site that the big end bearing shells wear so I popped mine off while I was at it. Turned out the shells on the big end side had worn down to the copper in places. I just put back new standard size shells.
I couldn't get over how clean the engine insides were as the attached pix shows. That was how it presented when I took the sump off i.e. without any cleaning. Max 5000 k's between oil and filter changes certainly pays.
According to my parts supplierhe knows a farmer that has taken his Disco 200 TDI out to near 900,000 k's. I wouldn't doubt it.
