The floor will have enough clearance but you can easily bolt in a floor from any manual rangie up to late 85/86 when the efi model came out(it has a spot welded in floor).
Hi Everyone,
I would like any feed back concerning the conversion of an 84 model Range Rover to a 200 Tdi. I have all the gear ready and waiting including the 200 Tdi and LT 77 five speed transmission. My main concern is that the Rangie is an Auto and if I need to procure a new floor pannel to accept the LT 77. If anyone has done this conversion or knows of someone who has I would be interested in any hints and tips.
Cheers
Mark

Think about a 2" body lift as without this the rear of the engine is tight to the body and nearly impossible to get the rocker cover off, and #4 injector out etc. Makes engine access much easier, and leaves plenty of room between gearbox etc and body.
I went from manual to auto, you will need the console bits to accommodate the gearstick, but body was fine.

Where abouts are you, I have a spare manual tranny tunnel from a 77 which should bolt in. Not worth it though if your not in SA!
What type of auto are you taking out? an old 3sp?

Ok i did it to a 1971 Range rover in 1992
I put a 200 Tdi and Lt77 manual box out of a disco in
I take it you engine is out of a disco , (as a defender one won't fit with out changing some parts on the engine)
The Power steering box has to be three bolt one as the timing cover on the 200 Tdi will hit the 4 bolt one.
You will need to cut away the bulkhead under the center of the windscreen to get the rocker cover into the engine bay. That will be fine you wont need a body lift and you will be able to get the rocker off and the injector out. There is enough room after you cut it away. I have pics of mine somewhere when you come to it
You will have to modify the top of the tunnel only as they sit in a totally differant places as the one you are taking out . My was made and just had the gearstick sticking out untill i could get it sorted. The tunnel its self will be fine but the top of the gearbox, Where the gear leaver comes out of the gearbox will poke though the tunnel
This is the range rover just after i bought it (at Billing) . It had a transit Engine in it when i bought it but had just had the 200 Tdi put in
This is the same rangie after i tarted it up and tried to make it look like a CSK

Hi,
Thanks for your tips, I've only just had chance to read them. The engine is out of a Defender, so I guess I have a bit more work to do. I think the vehicle is fitted with a four bolt steering box, perhaps I could change this to a three bolt. If you have any pics of your converstion that would be great, you can e-mail me on marklomas@hotmail.com.
Cheers
Mark
