the taper should be on the rearwards side, Thats how Ive always installed them.
Hi all
I am stumped on this one. The replacement pads have a taper in the brake lining material on the one side only ie. the pads are installed with the tapered part either on the 'leading' side or the 'trailing' edge. Neither the instructions nor my Haynes manual refere to this, and the pads that came out appear not ot have a chamfer at all.
Should this taper be on the leading or trailing edge? Anybody know?
Thanks
Adrian

Hi Dave
Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that a taper on the front might jam up with debris etc., so what you say does make sense.
cheers
Adrian
The rearward side is the leading edge. Think about it.

Hi Ron
Yes, the leading edge is towards the rear of the car, and the side I am supposing the square edge goes. The taper would then face the front of the car.
Thanks for the reply.
Adrian
The leading edge is chamfered, not the trailing edge

no, the taper faces the rear. thats the leading edge as the disc moves from rear to front inside the pad (unless for some freaky reason your calipers are on the bottom in which case panic as the rover has rolled off the hoist)
the trailing edge faces the front of the car.
The Champfer on the pad goes to the back end of the car.

Well, I seem to have got it wrong. If they squeal then I'll turn 'em around for leading edge taper. Thanks for clarifying this point.
