Should a TD5 be driven at low revs?

Got a quick question about my new TD5 110. I've noticed the engine doesn't seem to like high revs, particularly when accelerating in 1st and 2nd. Never had a diesel before, so I'm not sure if this is normal, or if sometings wrong? Our other 4WD's have been Suzuki's, which love being driven at high revs. Hopefully this is just normal behaviour for the TD5.

    Cheers

    Define high revs.

About 4000 ish is all they will comfortably do. There is no need to exceed about 3000 for most driving situations.

    Diesels are all about torque...

No diesel likes to rev compared to its petrol cousin...

    For example....

Our Zook spends its life goin to 5k

My defender is normally shifted at 2500 rpm...

Only when I'm feeling "aggressive" does she get revved over 3000rpm...

Let the torque do the work...

Driving a diesel is a learning curve from a petrol...
Including not changing down as much for slower bends etc...

Yeah, I'm not sure at what revs the engine starts to struggle. I suppose I'll just have to wait till I can drive someone else's and see if it's the same.

Its geared differently but on my D2 (auto) if driven hard it will change gears at 3900rpm. I say this is way too high. It sits nicely at 2600rpm when doing highway speeds.

    Diesel.... Torque

    Suzuki - 4/6 pot screamer....

    You should be changing 1-2 @ 2500-2800rpm
    Into 3rd around 2800rpm
    Cruising at 60 in 4th
In 5th by 70 on a level surface

Its not a Suzuki... Its a full bodied truck (essentially) and should be driven as such...

It'll take some learning, but you'll get there!

    going off my calibrated ear...

the turbo starts to drop off the boil at about 1100rpm but providing your not trying to acclerate, climb or tow that engine speed will hold you in all gears but I wouldnt recomend doing it to 5th....

max usefull power is had by 3800 but you have 700 or so up your sleeve if you desperately need it to make the next shift up come in on the guts of the torque curve.
