    Discintergrating waterpump

On my V8 Disco, yesterday I had a bad unknown coolant leak.
The engine would die on deceleration.
Turned out to be a **** waterpump, coolant gushing out of the pump shaft.
At no time did my temp gauge rise above normal.
When I pulled the pump off, it was ****ed, the bearings were flat and the the shaft that connects the impellor to the pully at the oter end was sheared in two.
Would have thought my temp gauge would have shown the over heating.?

Thats a big problem and there are not many engines that will cater for loss of coolant. The guage doesn't move because it's no longer submersed in coolant. For safetys sake (of the engine) I had a low coolant alarm fitted to the engine and have buzzed it once already due to a loose hose clamp.
    Cheers

You need an engine saver low coolant alarm from the guy who advertises on here.David Jones,Engine Saver.
They are very good, finally fitted one to our Rangie last weekend, still got to fit 1 to the Disco.
    Very easy!!!!

????? I would have assumed that when there is loss of coolant the temp would rise causing the gauge to read hot.
I know when my black plastic radiator tank split at the seam and I lost a large amount of coolant I had steam pouring out from the bonnet and the temp gauge hit the roof.
