    Defender clutch lever....fork? 300tdi.

At what ks should i think about that clutch lever stuffing up, vechicle used every day but only light duties, my thing has always been prevenative maintainance, at 180,000ks showing should i pull it down and replace? or do you get some sort of warning other than complete failure.

    Thanks Sumo

    Hi Sumo,

At 180,000km I would say that if city driving, the fork will need replacing soon. Open road; possibly last the life of the clutch, which in this case could go to 250K easily.

I have also noticed that on about 30% of cases the fork wasn't greased at all during factory assembly, the rest were given a token gesture.....I would get someone to operate the pedal while you listen at the bellhousing for squeaks etc. You can actually lube the pivot if you feel like drilling a hole in the bellhousing at 6o'clock in line with the rear of the housing casting for the slave cyl, and then pump gear oil or preferably pressure pack spray grease in to the pivot ball from underneath.

sumo, mine went just after 220,000km, and everything else needed replacing anyway.

It probably doesn't help that 99.99% of down changes since 75,000km (when I acquired the ol girl) have been double de-clutched.

Having a clutch fork die on me the other week, ( 300k, and it looks just like the photo's in the other thread) a replacement was duly obtained from Coopers - then, much to my amazement, a gentle question on how to prevent that happening ever again results in this:

A piece of 3mm steel mig'd to the fork.

And, apparantly it does the trick.

If you get Coopers to do your clutch work you get this standard - and their price for the fork alone is pretty good too.

    They get my vote. Again.

that's all good, except how does that prevent the wear to the slipper pivots and slippers themselves that are usually stuffed too
