i had the dc checked at trs last weekend while they replaced my rhs engine mount. their opinion is all td5 discos have a bit of vibration around that rev range, although they admitted that mine is aa bit more invasive than most.

i'm beginning to think its not the mounts, since it vibrates/drones even when coasting in 4th(auto)

are the rubber hangers the exhaust mountings you're speaking of? if so, they are all excellent still.

the lhs mount also sits well up in its bracket compared to the right hand side. TRS also dont think its anywhere near dead yet. hasnt leaked its fluid either.

if its not actually anything on its way out i think i'll just have to live with it. i dont have the spare money to spend chasing this sadly.

Yep the rubber mounts on the exhaust. Can you feel a lot of play moving the tail pipe from side to side. It should be pretty rigid. Also up front can you move the pipe side ways in front of the flex joint?

My LHS mount was still sitting up fairly high when I measured up through the hole at the bottom but compared to the new one it was stuffed. LHS is very easy after the RHS one.

What fluid, I thought they were solid rubber that just squashed down? but now I am courious....

yeah, apparently they are fluid filled to help dampen the vibrations and i guess add some more consistency.

    Simon,

No, can't say that it was felt through the body - just an annoying drone. If it is coming through the body sounds to me like it must be touching somewhere or as seems to be common fault with collapsed/collaping engine mounts.

Hmmm..next TD5 mount I change I will run a drill into it to see what comes out of the hole. Hopefully that won't be for anothe 85,000k.

Simon did your new mounts cure the vibration? My TD5 auto also has the vibration. Black Forest wanted $350 for the mount and I didn't want a second hand one from TRS. I ordered one from a UK dealer and even with the delivery on top I saved $200. Just hope it cures it.

the mounts trs have used so far all seem to be collapsed!!! this current one sits a few mm inside its housing when the car is off, but i'm sure that once under load it's collapsing. they claim to have not changed very many mounts as it hasnt been a common problem they have dealt with. i think that perhaps most owners jusr accept the drone as being "how it is" and never look into the cause(s). i'm going to get a new mount from the LR dealer at hawthorne. $195 and TRS will fit it free.

i'll let you know once this is done.

and and btw, welcome gman . if you're ever down in the sthn suburbs and wanna meet up, let me know.
