    Snorkel for D3

G'day all, aimed mainly at those that have a snorkel/ raised air intake. My question: is the LR OEM Raised Air Take the same as a "normal" snorkel. I have approached Safari and seems they only have one for the TDV6 not the V8, so am looking at the LR model. ANy information would be appreciated plus a rough idea on price, thanks. Also wouldnt install myself as I just dont have that sort of expertise, thanks

    Regards

I remember reading about this here:
    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/showthread.php't=39125

Some guys from discoweb with LR3s have modded it with silicone or even tape.

Isn't the air intake in the same place on the RHF guard? The genuine raised air intake is entirely external to the vehicle (no mods the the air system past the skin of the guard at all). If that is the case, a diesel one and petrol one will be the same.

You don't need a lot of expertise, just a few tools, patience, a steady hand and steady nerves for when you start drilling holes into the side of your multi thousand $$ vehicle...

Can't be sure... but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the flexi-pipe behind the grill in the guard needs replacing. Reason for this is that it has drainage holes in the bottom of it - so obviously not water tight.

Maybe this has something to do with V8 v's TDV6 difference ?

    Hi Stevo,
The LR Raised Air Intake (not snorkel) is external as mentioned and does not replace the pipe in the guard which has drainage holes in it.

The Safari Snorkel replaces the pipe in the guard.

The v8 probably has a bigger diameter pipe in the guard, so the tdv6 Safari pipe would not match the air filter box inlet.

I agree that a "LR RAI and sikaflex the drainage holes in the pipe" would be the best solution.

    Cheers,
    Rob

    Stevo68,

Just for comparison I paid around $600 for the LR RAI including fitting.

Ok, learning here, so is there a point to get a LR RAI ie is it as good as a snorkel, what does say a safari snorkel offer over the RAI.

    Also

mate could you explain the sikaflex/ drainage holes in the pipe, not sure exactly what that means. Thanks for the input so far, mucho appreciado

I would say as posted that in your original air intake setup that there is a flexible pipe as part of it behind the front side guard that has some holes in the bottom of the pipe for water or condensation drainage. So when fitting the snorkel this pipe would have to be removed and have the holes filled with Sikaflex like a silicon compound to make the pipe water tight.

Still don't understand why they would have a small difference there for a TD Vs V8. ?
