Thread: Where to mount a block over-temp alarm? (Engine Watchdog Tm2)

I have mine on under the thermostat bolt on one car, on another under a bolt holding the water outlet to the head.

I guess the mos important thing is that it is installed under a bolt/nut that is affected by the temp of the head near cooling passages so that you can see what the normal temp is, set the alarm a few degrees higher so f something goes wrong, you get the audible warning so that you have enough warning before it's too late to do something.

I prefered the low water alarm. (thats until it went faulty)

    Now about getting that fixed
I disagree - the problem with a low water alarm is that it ONLY warns you if the water is low - what if your fan clutch is on it's way out? What if the Thermostat is jammed closed? What if there is a blocked cooling passage or the radiator is blocked, what if the water pump is failing and not pumping enough water through?

The beauty of this concept is that it warns you of ANY issue with the whole cooling system.... You can have as much warning as you like - on one of my trucks, I know that even when towing, the thermostat bolt never goes above 95 degree's C even on a real hot day - the temp that is bopiling point on that vehicle (due to pressure and coolant) is over 120 degree's.

I have the alarm set to go off at 96 degree's C - that's plenty of warning! The OEM tempgauge wont even move till over 100 and something degrees and there is no alarm - so guess what, if I aint looking at the temp gauge at the time, I would be in trouble without the TM-2 Engine watchdog Temp gauge...

By the way - I seriously liked this product so much - I installed it on my jetski to monitor oil temps so I can see when the oil temp is up high enough that I can start ripping into it I also installed one on my boat outboard motor so I get more warning of an overheat if my impeller fails or I pick up a plastic bag...

My friends liked them so much, I got them a bulk deal... if your interested - let me know
