ABS works down to 2kph. If you dont get past the "setup" speed (7kph) then your on your own. and the ABS should work in reverse. Mine does... You dont want to know How I found out....

I love the idea of TC and ABS on a 4wd but I dont have it so Im going lockers when I have the cash so I dont need to spin the AT's so much to get up some tracks.
Im sure that any mod or feature has it's limits and TC and ABS definatly will but I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
Nothing wrong with the AT's but in some situations, if you dont fit lockers then it may pay to switch it off and get them spinning to get them to dig.
with a freaking big trailer on, trying to reverse down a shaley track on a wet leafy covered slope to get into position to recover a broken quad bike and rider.
The trailer had elec brakes on it and was overkill for what I needed at the time but was all i could get that would do the job.
Due to the nature of the track I could only get in one way and was going to be faced with either reversing down a slope and around a corner empty or reversing up the same slope... (assuming i decided to stay on the track which given the nature of the terrain, seemed prudent at the time)
The ground wasnt dangerously angled so even in the event of a total frell up I wasnt in danger of rolling,(didnt feel like it at the time tho) it would have been a case of which tree was going to stop the slide but it was still something I wanted to avoid doing especially since Big red was undr 20k km young.
The trailer decided (mainly cause I frelled up the initial turn) that it wanted to be more down hill than the track was and slid off that way (road tyres on the trailer on wet shaley track then the leaves wasnt helping my cause) dragging big reds ass with it. so after my first foot massage, the trailer up against a tree, big red stalled out cause Id mashed both feet into the brake pedal it was time to air down and take bite 2.. TC wasnt playing due to me having to shut down for a restart but with some sublte rocking big red came good and lined me up for the second shot.
What Im not sure on is if Traction control works in reverse. Im fairly sure it will as its not sensing wheel direction just rotational speed.
What I hate hearing is the following words from my wife as we approach a corner at "no way do we have the traction for this turn" type speeds as she drives it in on the brakes...
"dont worry, Me, TC and ABS we've got a good relationship going" as Im listening to the ABS pump going spastic and gravel crunching out under the rubber.

Scary story Dave ...
Well, now that you guys have shared your various pieces of wisdom about driving with TC, I wanna go back to Levuka and play some more!
I don't think I really experimented enough when I got stuck in some places - just planted my foot, got as far as I could, then gave up.
Oh well, there's always next weekend ...![]()
Agree. We had an incident on a club trip last year with a non CDL D2 attempted to climb a steep hill and failed. As per normal, he reversed back down, but not longh after the front wheels lost traction and the whole Disco lost control, slid sideways and luckily I was able to get up to the top to winch him back into poisition. Also was partly driver error to add to this I must say.
Makes you think why the **** LR left the CDL off the D2 and then put it back in
Trav
the CDL was omited as traction control was ment to be able to do without it, and it can but as it is then worked to death it over heats and decides to go have a lay down and a ciggy.
the rovers that have the CDL in but no linkage to operate it are that way as rover used up existing parts.
Due to popular demand (What? people actually drive these things off road enough to find the limits of the TC?) it was put back in.

I can confirm that the TC on our fender works in reverse. IE, going down a very steep hill at black duck, the fender had a wheel slip and start to accelerate down the hill, and then with my foot on the floor the TC light flashes and we slow a bit and continue down the hill
I can also confirm that with the centre and front and rear axles locked the TC does absolutely nothing at all![]()

Yes the lockers would have assisted the other two capable 4wd's Did you air down before the mud play..
Best thing is you had fun and learnt a bit more about ya Fender.
As for tyre paterns In mud I feel the more aggressive patern on my Simex JT's is chalk and cheese though my capable Coopers ST's still get me through they are more likely to clog at slow speeds where the JT's are like a tractor. As for you the amount of mud drivin vs normal your choice in BFGs was sensible alrounder.
