I dont think that internal clearances will be a problem, just remember to make a bead of the goop, smear it and let it set up for 5 to 10 mins before you put it all together.
Hi all,
Just a quick question.
I have my driver side tappet cover off as it was leaking like there was no tomorrow. Which is annoying since I only fitted new rubber gaskets to both covers about 8 months ago.
The cause is the rubber gasket has split in several places.
Will I run into clearance problems if I only goo the tappet cover in place?
It can't work any worse than the rubber gasket did unless the cover will sit too low.

Thanks for that.
It didn't feel like there was going to be problems when I test fitted it but the rubber gasket is pretty thick.
I'll give it a go.
I am amazed the rubber gaskets have split. Were the small distance pieces in the bolt holes to stop over compression?
I could see them splitting if the distance pieces were missing.

The metal peices in the bolt holes where are still there. All the splits are along the bottom (outer) edge and are parallel to the gasket. Between the two bolt holes.
Well the tappet cover is gooed on now. I haven't started it yet though.
Now I have to go to the carwash sometime and clean off all the oil that has covered everything on the driver side of the engine, diff etc.
It will be nice not to drive a car that smells like burning sump oil due from the exhaust manifold being below part of the leak.
