I am always in wonder when people talk about watching while their diesel self destructs from runaway.
Why not just stick your shirt or some suitable balled up material in the air intake? A time honoured method.
No air no go.

Like the Intercooler hoses. Cannot wait to get mine.

The suction is stronger than that. We tried it with an old Tojo L at tafe and at IDLE it still had enough to collapse the rubber hoses and deform the metal air cleaner, AND kept on running.
I have seen it done with the Detriot 2-Stroke diesels when installed stationary. They have huge flaps on the inlets of the blowers that can stop the engine, but, of course, below them it is all cast metal, not hoses or pipes.
By the time you got the red-hot hoses off, and stuffed something across the intake, your engine would be trashed. I like the Co2 idea.
Hi Brad

Hi Brad..I got the EGR bypass kit from td5 alive in the uk..emailed him and paid by paypal ($115)..he sent via DHL on the thursday and i got it here in canberra the following monday morning....good quality parts and fitted it in 30 minutes ..and also came with a pdf doco with all instructions..noticeable difference in mid range performance & smoother take off..chugging along quite nicely now..
cheers..
It never ceases to amaze me how quick the priority post from England is. It takes 4 days for a package from Perth to Karratha standard parcel post.
LandyAndy I will PM you.
Brad
I understand the presence of an additional butterfly valve in 01-04 TD5's makes the EGR even more restrictive than earlier TD5s, but presumably there is still benefit in replacing the EGR in earlier models? Is it also the case that the dump pipe off the turbo is more restrictive in later TD5's, presumably for some emission compliance reason?
Are there any potential disadvantages with replacing the EGR?
WRT those having problems removing the bolts for this job, the new Loctite freezeoff product should help...
from the TD5alive website:
http://www.td5alive.com/egr.phpThe picture on the left shows the early EGR valve assembly, as used on 1998 - 2001 models. The middle picture shows the EGR valve assemby used on 2001 - 2004 models, which has an additional butterfly valve, causing an even greater restriction!
