Engagement of D2 CDL from underneath vehicle

Hi - I intend to get a manual linkage set up at some stage so that I have my CDL actuated on my 99 TD5 manual Disco. However, in the meantime, I've heard that a 10 mil spanner turned 45 degrees on the actuator can do the job as an interim solution. Does the 99 model have an external bolt/actuator and is it it readily accessible from underneath the vehicle - is so, where is it/what does it look like?

Also, from a search of the threads, I found this statement from 2005:

If you engage CDL with the engine running you have ETC, if you engage CDL before starting the engine (or if you stall and restart the engine with CDL engaged) ETC is disengaged and the ETC light will illuminate. You can use this to your advantage as there are times when ETC is detrimental to keeping momentum, in deep sand for example.

    Is this true?

    Thanks

Firstly yes easy to get too, just above the tailshaft at the back of the transfer case.

The ABS/TC & HD will only be dissabled if you turn the ignition off while the CDL is engaged or if you engage the CDL before turning the ignition on, if you stall and restart no it won't dissable the TC & ABS, the ignition has to be turned off.

the other thing I forgot to ask is whether the CDL electrics are in place on all models - i.e. if I engage the CDL manually, is there a sensor already in the TC that will result in a light coming on on the dash?

Yes they are, even the model with no internals in the transfer case.

Also there is a wire you can cut to stop the TC/ABS/HD dissabling

    .
Wrong. Don't look there, you will never find it.

It is above the FRONT propshaft, on the front extension housing.
