MAF Sensor in 2003 Disco V8

Hello, my truck is getting its first non-warranty service today and I am told the MAF sensor is stuffed. Do these tend to crap out easilly? I only have 66k on the clock and I am told it will cost anywhere between $300-500 to replace! Ouch when the service is $700 on top of that....

    MAF Sensor

Ring Landrover "customer care" and tell them about the dealer service and MAF sensor. Since you have the low milage on your 2003 they may contribute something towards the part.

My 2003 TD5 was 3 months out of warranty when the ABS unit played up giving the 3 amigo lights on the dash, HD ABS/TC.

Landrover customer care replaced the unit and covered labour cost at the dealer as well. Ring them, be calm and tell them the story.

The siemens MAF which Landrover use appears not to be good quality and does not seem to like Hot weather. Mine in the TD5 started plying up at 70,000 klms but took another 10,000 to diagnose. The wires were brown and fell to pieces when I touched them.

At least this dealer mechanic new something was not quite right when he took it for the test drive.

Hope it going well for you now.

What was your symptoms of a fouled MAF? Crap fuel consumption, performance or both?
    Cheers

    Hi Cwebb
    BOTH!!!!!
BUT mine is a TD5 but it does the same to performance/economy.
A good improvment with half a can of contact cleaner($20)
A huge improvement with an EGR clean disconect.
If yours is a V8 look into the EGR as on the diesel the AFM controls the EGR operation.Mine was stuck open with what I suspect was the wrong info from the dirty AFM.Mine had carbon preventing the valve seating when it was supost to be shut.
EGR removal/disablement was the go on petrols when I first got my licence, guessing its still the case if you can get away with it!!!!
