i was under the impression with with rego checks, aside from the usual toing a froing on suspension and the like, rust checks were only to be visual, no sticking objects into what looks like rust.
Plus rust in not a major worry if the vehicle has a frame/chassis under it.

Where did I get this gem from, my mate the pink slip/blue slip checker. He told me they can't damage a car when doing checks, so if for example you cover a rust hole with some tape, they cannot remove it to see whats under it. Any rust has to be obvious. My ???'s came about after a rego on the batmobile where the guy found a pinhole under the sill. Easily fixed but was interesting.
