    The next problem!!!

    Hi all.

    Disco II 99 TD5 Auto

I seem to be having extra luck ( not ) with my bus at the moment. Recently it has been the SLS compressor, gearbox and now the alternator light is on.

Volt meter tells me its not producing anything good either.

I assume you can repair/overhaul the alternator?

If so, how long should it take labour wise and can anyone recommend an auto electrician here in Darwin.

I think its time to sell it. Its not been a reliable car

Could the problem be the regulator and if so how do you test for it?

I was going to post a link so you can see what a TDi alternator is like to rebuild, since the rear end of the Td5 is similar ( ie not like bosch regulators etc). But a little googleing has led me to belive that it could be somthing other than your alternator that is a bit off. There was one post from a brit on a british LR forum with a 2000 td5, who had the similar faults, and when he replaced the alternator with a new one had the same faults. Although there was no reply to the post,I believe it may be somthing simple on your td5. Double check that both the sensing connection and indicator connection are tight and both receiving power. The indicator ciruit you already know is sort of working (red light on) but have you checked the other wire?
