    D2 Td5 coolant spit!

    Hi all

Just had the new (to me) car serviced on Thursday and noticed today at the shops it had spat some coolant out, but seemed okay when i got home, the level looked ok.

Apparently the previous owner had this problem once and went through a load of tests to check head gasket integrity and all came up fine - and nothing presented at the service.

I believe they can airlock so is it likely it's just burped or can anyone shed any other light on it?
    Cheers

It could be an air lock. If it is you need to bleed it asap.

Check the top radiator hose with the engine running after a brisk drive, squeeze it to see how much pressure is there,if there is heaps its not good!!!!!

Steve, first time for me...other time about 6months back according to the previous owner and his service guy.

Just been for 2 x 7km x 90kmh runs - no leakage, top hose okay (well i could squeeze it without any much trouble), temp gauge in the middle....????

Keep a close eye on it Mike
Mine started out doing it on and off,got the gasket done whilst it was only a minor leak. The temp gauge isnt very good, will always sit in the middle!!!
Another check,go out and start it up,turn the climate control off.Is the electric cooling fan on the front of the radiator running????
If it is the ECU has registered an overheat at some stage and will run it automatically till the fault code is cleared.

    Cheers Andy

I'll check the thermo in the morning (no light in carport!).

Out of interest how much was it to R&R the head gasket? I've been told some very unpleasant figures in relation to this.

    Cheers

It could of course be a faulty pressure cap.
The main function of the radiator cap is to prevent boiling and overflow during shut down heat soak.
I know its not a conventional old type cap, but its still something cheaper to try before surgery.

Richard,(Kie4 on here) did mine.It was HEAPS HEAPS better than the prices you hear.
Send him a PM,he isnt very far south of you at all, pretty sure he also has the die sniffer kit.
He works fly in fly out so may not get back to you quickly.
