On APEC Friday, I thought I'd go and help my father in law do some landscaping. Poor bloke had 8t of gravel to move by himself.
I decided to take my Landy and enjoy the drive...
20 mins into the journey down the freeway at 55mph, I lost power (just as a 110 Hardtop overtook!). I pulled over and cursed the car and tried to re-start. It fired and ran. So I drove home.
Again, on the way home, it lost all power. I shifted out of overdrive and let the clutch out, and it fired up by itself.
It ran fine all the way home.
I checked under the bonnet on the way home, some of the fuel lines had a film of diesel over them, so I tightened every fuel union and wiped up the mess.
any ideas?
leaking fuel lines and sucking air into the filters.
if your return lines are plumbed up by the book then one set goes back to the primary filter, if that line is allowed to draw air in it can wind up in the pump. When the pump shifts to full fuel to make the engine come up to speed it will clear itself and then fire up again.
