Question Defender set up like a troopy

    Hey all,

Anyone know if a Defender can legally be set up as a troopy in it's seating arrangement and what is involved? (I think I have seen them before )

I am selling my Discovery and am looking at getting a defender (93 - 98 model depending on $$$$$) - if you have any other comments about the best model to get in this year range that'd be cool too

    Cheers,

Well, I just got it put on LPG as the V8 was too much for my pocket to handle... now I can only drive around 250 inexpensive kilometers before I need to refuel. I do take it 4x4ing a lot and this short travel capacity is just annoying. I hope to get a Diesel. I am also going back to study next year (post grad in teaching) so a V8 just isn't a good idea. That is why I'm selling - shame as I have spent a fair bit on her as I'm a perfectionist

It would be a lot cheaper to fit extra tanks for more range than to replace the Disco. My local LR specialist/gas fitter fits sill tanks on either side of Discos (when required) so that one doesn't lose rear load space capacity.

A V8 on gas is cheaper to run than a diesel.

any additional seating added to todays vehicles needs to be forward facing........

so......the inward facing seats available for the defenders are not legal any more.......
unless the thing came out with them already fitted.......

Aparently this isn't strictly true. I say this because down at the local Toyota dealer is a brand new 70 Series Troopy with inward facing seats in the rear.

Don't ask me how this works because I thought the same as you.

    Hi
My 300Tdi Defender110 had it's inward facing seats fitted in Sydney along with it's air cond directly after import before being sold as new.

It has two compliance plates, as a 5 seat and 9 seat.
So I guess you would need to get it re-complianced at least.
Not sure of the legality of side facing seats tho ...
Don't know who fitted the seats, but my installation was a butcher's picnic. Seatbelt mount steel bracing bars bolted directly to the aluminium wheel housing panels! - corrosion galore <gloom>.

    Cheers
