    Trutracs

    Hi all,
I have a 92 Disco and want to get a trutrac for the front. Is it worth the extra cost and effort to upgrade to 24 spline gear? Is anyone using the 10 spline set up and if so what size/type of tyres do you run with it? What are peoples experiences and/or opinions?

I would think that you would need to upgrade to either Maxi 10 Spline axles or 24 Spline axles as there would be little if any difference in cost I think that it would be wiser to go 24 Spline.
I understand that Trutracs are not hard on the running gear but if you learn the trick of putting the brakes on in low traction situations you will be placing more strain on the 10 spliners it will only be a matter of time.

That's what I was thinking too. But I was hoping to get a bit of feedback to say otherwise. Mustn't be many people using trutracs.

Another question while I think of it. If I did stay with 10 spline in front what is more likely to break first axle or cv?

I dont know I have heard many loudly proclaimed opinions on another forum saying that the 10 spline will go before the small cv's. I have driven Rovers for 27 years and never broken an axle apart from 109 inch vehicles with the Rover diff.
I think that you could try the tru trac with the 10 splines if you break one you will not hurt the trutrac. Then buy Maxis for it. I run 10 splines maxis in the front of a Stage 1 and have never had issues.
From my calculations a Maxi 10 spline is stronger than a 24 spline Rover axle made from thier inferior material.
Dont know if this helps. I suspect that the other forum is probably full of young fellas that need to learn how to drive. If you are not using larger than standard tyres you should be ok just dont jam your foot on the brake pedal and the throttle at the same time to get through stuff.

Thanks for your thoughts Duane. I just found and read an article by a guy who uses a trutrac with 10 spline front diff. He refers to the brake technique as "the break" technique. His count is 4 axles and 2 cvs. Sounds like 10 spline would more than likely lead to trouble.

ive got one in the 90, but its all 24spline and OE.
i would recomend changing over to the 24spline stuff just for piece of mind.
i dont know your driving style so i cant comment on what would break first.
i too havnt broken an axle or CV, 10 or 24 spline. and NO i dont drive like your mother

    cheers phil
