    2 questions....

As the TD5 is getting such a battering on here this week i thought i would ask a few more questions to shed doubt on this fine motor! well in general about the car i think

1, i have read the following

"The Td5 ECM gives the best of both worlds, with Fast Throttle Control (FTC) for road driving, where most of the engine power is accessible in the first 30% of pedal travel, and a more linear, long-travel setting which is automatically provided when low-range is selected."

So why is mine backwards to this? if i put it in low range the pedal seems to be super sensitive which i thought was odd.. maybe its just me but im pretty sure its the case.

2, i have a strange wind down noise from the engine on shut down. its coming from or around the turbo... i have had a listen and seems to be coming from just forward of the turbo (toward the car front) it sounds like a clicky bearing or one of the blades catching very very faintly, or the turbo out of balance. you cant hear it when its running, but only if the surroundings are quiet and when the engine is switched off? maybe im being paranoid?!?!?

thats it for now... suggestions aplenty required! now im off to research exhaust mods and egr blanks...

    Thanks

    Steve

1: Some later TD5s have the Hi/low switch reversed in the ECU. I do not know the real reasons but both my TD5's are reversed. I have read many posts on this but have not seen the answer. It can be corected by wiring a relay into the circuit.

2: The noise would be coming from the centrifuge filter. This is normal.

    Thanks for that

On the centrifuge would it be audible inside the car also? as it is faintly and continues for about 20 ish seconds after shutdown... there arent any moving parts in the filter either are there?

also its just been serviced and i noticed it just after the service, so maybe that makes sense!

on the loud pedal being reversed i'll look into that!

    Thanks

    I'll give you a hint:
    Centrifugal filter works by............

If you've only noticed it after a service, then they might have fitted a non-genuine filter. Some of these have clearance issues & can make contact with the housing while spinning.

Actually, if you've only noticed it after the service, its likely they fitted a genuine filter to replace a NON genuine one..... And its now working properly.

thanks guys i have printed this out as binding information and will hold you all responsible if its the turbo...

seriously tho.. i like inexpensive answers, and its a good one. as far as i thought the centrifuge relied on the oil being jetted into the vortex rather than having moving parts.. either way i dont care as long as i dont have to fix things

at least thats one good story for the td5 this week

    Thanks again

Have to agree, and my spanner juggler told me only to use Genuine filter - mine had an aftermarket one on when I bought it and it did not make the noise on shutdown - now does

As to low range throttle response, have you had a chip upgrade? Some conflict with this low range sensetivity feature.

It used to be a problem, I suspect most chippers have figured it out by now. There was a fair bit about this on the English forums.

I had to take mine back to the supplier & a different upgrade was loaded - all sorted a couple of years ago.

nah i have had an upgrade (done by tombraider) but it was like that when i first got the car (reversed not chipped!). As some have commented previously, it was reversed for some strange reason on some td5's...

would be good if i can get it put back to how it was meant to be tho!

    Thanks
