94 Disco 300Tdi
Without roof rack - consistent 8.2L/100km
With roof rack - 9.5L/100km

Average consumption in the 18 months that I have owned it - 9.1L/100km (12 months with rack)

98 Disco 8.8ltr per 100km (the best) & 12.1 (the worst)
And I mainly sit on 95-100 kmh

97 300tdi disco, best was low 9s worst was mid 13s, at the moment I generally return around the 10 to 11 with a mix of around town and country 4wding.

On the hwy, if I sit on about 90kmh, it uses bugger all but if I sit on 110kmh it guzzles a bit.

Im not sure that my odometer is acurate as the readings are with both 28" and 32" tyres but the fuel seems to not have changed all that much.

All the way from Hobart to Townsville, < 9.5l per 100.

Around town, 11.5 - 12

Checking odometer is dead easy and that is all you need to do if you want accurate fuel consumption figures. Checking speedo involves steady speed and a bit of maths.
They seem to be pretty accurate.

Provided the markers have been placed accurately!
There is one set on the Bruce Hwy north of Brisbane that is notorious for it's inaccuracy. It may have been corrected now. We used to use is as a final check of our Halda calibration in rally cars as we headed to events. Overall the 5km was correct, but one of the intermediate markers was out significantly (Can't remember which one it was now - 2 or 3km I think)

'94 300Tdi Disco - Average consumption over 158,000km was 10.5 l/100k - best was 8.5 and worst was 13.6.

'92 200Tdi Defender - Average over 112,000km was 11.0 l/100k - best was 8.9 and worst was 14.0.

In both cases corrections were made for odometer errors and in both cases best figure was achieved when max speed was limited to 90km/h.

I've never managed to get to 10lt/100km in my manual D1 300Tdi. About 9.2 was the closest I've got. Although I normally get 8.2 with the best being 7.2Lt/100km over 1400km
