    Baz, we don't need glow plugs in sunny Queensland .

    After 5 minutes of cranking the cylinders should be hot enough to fire anyway.

    easy the fuel pressure regulator takes up the space for the 5th one so it was left out on purpose to allow the fuel pressure regulator to be bolted on.

    4 is more than enough in theory you only need 1 to get a diesel to start. once it fires on one cylinder the increase in cranking speed will cause the others to fire even in sub arctic temps...

    I'm surprised the Td5 requires operating glow plugs to fire in normal Australian conditions.

    I recall at the 300tdi training I attended that their glow plugs don't even operate until some ridiculously low temperature (well below 0).

    Peter did say the TD5 didn't really need them, although it isn't starting with a rough idle now.
