    Thumbs up Holden flywheel drama

In my never ending quest to fix the old series 3 into some sort of reasonable travelling bus, I did decided on wacking a Holden donk in it with a fairy O/D and big wheels, we are having the compression dropped and fitting a torquey cam profiled to try and give it some grunt in low, blah blah the engine is a later commodore red 3.3 202 in the old tongue, the engine is fairly new and needs onlky accesories and the cam, I am refitting the original oil cooler I have which is mammoth, I will giveit a new clutch and related bearings, now I have the heard the original holden flywheels are failures in this conversion, why? whats the reason for this, is the holden pressure plate used with a landy plate or does the flywheel need to br redrilled to suit to landy clutch as a unit, anybody got a spare set of holden engine mounts? to suit the 3

Weigh the LR Flywheel compared to the holden one, the LR fly wheel is heavier

People use the holden flywheel with out too much drama

Years ago you could get a flywheel made to suit the holden motor with the LR clutch , which was heavier than a holden flywheel which helped with engine braking and torque

Ive had a holden powered series before not my ideal setup ( each to their own)

The best way to go IMO is the conversion that uses the landy flywheel and bellhousing..Via a crank spacer.

I had a S3 with the holden flywheel and I bent the bellhousing which then smashed the clutch.
    And damaged the gearbox.

I ran the overdrive for some time but the noise drove me mad. I then fitted a high speed T/C which was great except it made first gear a little high when towing..

All this said the best set up was the 2,25 six in my S2a even if road speed was down it was the pick of the engines.

If money allows I would like to fit a 300tdi with high speed T/C to a S3.
But now I have fallen in love with a TD5..Younger is good but I miss the series trucks..

Another alternative is the 5 speed gearbox from a Patrol, Mark's Adaptors used to make a kit to fit a red or blue motor to a Nissan 4 or 5 speed box and a S2A or 3 transfer box. Much stronger than a LR box and the 5 speed has a lower 1st and overdrive top and a very light clutch pedal. Not sure which clutch is used.

I had three 2As with red motors, one with an aluminium Dellow kit which used a Holden clutch, one with a steel adaptor and a Land Rover clutch and one with the Mark's Nissan kit. I found the Holden clutch shuddered a lot, when we pulled it out, the adaptor plate was not parallel.
