I've found the cause of the vibrations!

Have had some severe vibrations for the last few weeks and also thought that the car was a lot louder. Haven't had any time until this morning though to actually get out and have a proper look.

    This is what i found...

Suspected this was on its way out. Its so badly damaged that it allowing the exhaust to rest on the crossmember causing the worst of the vibrations.

The other thing i found while i was under there was this....

Not very happy about this as it was replaced only 20,000kms ago and the previous one had lasted 170,000kms. Might be time to convert to uni's i think.

Ouch, something sure hit that hard. I had a similar thing happen with the D2. It is not the normal rotoflex wear but from something hitting it. I reckon a small guard should fix that up.

So do you still drive the Rangie?

    OMFG!
How did you not notice that rubber donut???

Mine was nowhere near that bad and it was almost undriveable!

I have had two fail in 30000kms. One similar to that but no metal damage (contact marks though) and the current one is beginning to crack.

I've saved the donut pic That's a classic.

Looks like if you had left that any longer you'd have thrown the driveshaft off the diff

I'm not aware of hitting anything. The Disco hasn't been used for that type of trip in a long time. Not sure what the wife does with it in the supermarket car parks though...

Its only become undriveable in the last few days. Having said that, its our only working car atm so it will have to keep driving around till next weekend when i can get it all fixed up.

RR hasn't moved in months. Biggest problem is blown PS box seal and secondary issue is dead battery from lack of use. Really got to get it sorted and get some road tyres for it so I can use it around town. Only having one working car is really starting to give me the sh1ts. (especially when it is now only half working).

On second thought, I'm going to go out and rip the rear tail shaft off now and just have her drive around with the diff lock in. Better option that it letting go and doing more damage.

I would have thought the prop shaft damage came from the bolt chewing into the bracket because of your 4" lift. It looks like it is the same situation on the other side, although it's a bit hard to see in the photo.

The bolt heads are worn to match the yoke. But that would be some fantastic angles going on under there.

I would tip more that the rubber donut has failed and the shaft is rotating within the newly made slots in the donut(torn damage) until the bolts are transmitting drive directly on the yoke. With the missing rubber there is effectively no donut.

No 4" lift in the Discovery, thats the RR. Discovery has 2" lift (which i reckon is a bit less than that now).

    And yep, its definately fubared...

Unfortunately you have been supplied with a non genuine donut. The originals are GKN brand made in Germany which is moulded onto it.
