changing oil in defender

Just remembered another point to make life easier when changing the full flow filter - after loosening it, wrap a plastic bag around it for the final unscrewing - this will catch the overflow of oil that occurs while unscrewing and your hands will remain clean. Simple but effective.

However, I think it a waste of time and money to change the Centrifuge Filter more often than about every 100,000kms. Now you might think this a bit extreme but I have dismantled a couple (not an easy job but an angle grinder helps) after 30,000kms and the sludge build up was only about 3mm, which leaves heaps of room for this partial flow filter to do its job.

the full flow will have less crap in it than the centrifuge

And those that are changing their oil every 5000km in a TD5

Is it taking twelve months to do the 5000km ? or are you only doing trips of less than 10km at a time ? otherwise you are tipping lots of lot$ of expen$ive $ynthetic oil back into the oil recycling tank at the garage and not decreasing wear in your engine.

Not quiet... I've just clocked up 40,000km in 4 years and 6 months! So yes I change mine every 12 months

I change my oil every 10k's as I do alot of highway running and the oil is to good to do at 5.I run Penrite in both my vehicles and it is dearer but you get what you pay for. Pat
