There isnt any right or wrong answer here, it is personal preference which will be based on what you do with it, how you drive and what you want your vehical to look like or handle.

Im sure that some people will have a different idea and opinion to me and thats why I just wanted to know what your all running not what one person thinks of someone elses opinions, that doesnt tell anyone anything.

I could have done a poll but that only tells you the one thing, how many people run skinnys over wides but I was trying to get a more acurate idea of what peoples opinions were for them to buy the tyres they did and what they have found with them.

If you want to discuss one vs the other and have a fight to the death between opinions then start another thread, can we please get this one back on track or just let it die.

I don't know why you are so stressed out that the thread went slightly off track! Just look at the knowledge that has come to light. I reckon most people have gained more out of taking half an hour reading this thread, than it would take in a month searching different forums. If I had started this thread I would be proud of myself.

I am not taking the p!ss I am seriously paying you a complement. I for one have learn't so much from this one thread I think it's excellent.

To deal with the initial question - I have 235/85R16 Simex Road Treckers on 16 x 5.5 rims. I don't do the real tough stuff, find them excellent on roads, sand, dirt. Mind you, I found worn truck retreads in 7.50R16 fine on sand. I have 7.50bartreads in the shed for when I DO get the urge for an aggressive off-road tyre.

And to deal with the theory - much of the discussion can be shown to be absurd if taken to the extreme. I have a mountain bike which has fat slicks and fat lumpies. The lumpies are MUCH better off the hard stuff, the slicks have much less rolling resistance at equivalent pressures. The thinner (and taller) tyres on my road bike would be worse off road at any pressure! But even the fattest bicycle tyres are thin compared to a "skinny" car tyre.
