    glue taillight lens?

for some reason a small 5cent size piece of the drivers side taillight has broken off,,
right on the top left corner.

    the question is,
can I just superglue it back on?

am concerned the glue will dissolve the lens

Superglue won't dissolve the lens, but the repair is likely not to be permanent. Glue made for plastic models will dissolve the lens, and will need a lot more care to use, but is likely to be more permanent.

However, if the lens has broken without anything hitting it, it is likely that the lens has deteriorated due to UV exposure and will need to be replaced fairly soon. Many UK origin plastic products do not stand up to Australian sun conditions.

if you buy "decent" superglue, such as "loctite" brand, it will hold for way way longer...

Not just the Kmart Loctite stuff. Go to a commercial supplier for the good Loctite glue (I can't remember where we used to get ours from).
Just make sure you get it in the right spot as you will NEVER get it off.

For these type of fixes - I use a small pointed soldering iron - and 'plastic weld' it in place - it's better if you can get in the back of the repair via the globe hole, but if not it can be done from the front.

but if you take your time and are careful you would never know there has ever been a repair.

If you use a soldering iron previously used for solder - make sure the tip is very clean before (and after) using it on plastics
