    Swap body or drivetrain?

    Rove again seeking guidance/inspiration.

You may recall I rolled an 89 classic and have since purchased a 73 to make one out of two.

The 89 is in excellent condition apart from the body. Plus I have already removed most of it's interior. The 73 has a good motor and better body, but the rest of the drivetrain is pretty sub standard.

Here's the quandry. What is going to be easiest. Removing the body from the 73 and attaching to 89 chassis, engine and drivetrain, or removing drivetrain etc from 89 and fitting to 73.

Seems like loads of work either way....

    Any suggestions much appreciated.

Unfortunatly I have three letters for you: R T A. ( or your states equivalent to the roads and traffic authority). The less you have to tell them the better. It may seem easier to just swap things holus-bolus, but the rego inspectors would go ballistic. Of course, having said that, they are only interested in chassis, body and engine numbers - everything else is fair game for swap.

    agree with Langy!!!

Body swap would be easier IMO but then the body / seatbelts etc would not comply to 1989 ADRs?

    Question Friendly mech

Got the RTA side of things sorted. Pop riveted plates etc... friendly mechanic and the 73 is the registered vehicle.

Still interested in which is easiest. Thanks Langy for your opinion. Any other thoughts?

pannels bolt to) swop all the drive train stuff its a

bugger of a job swoping the whole body over, a real

pain in the **** did it on a 85 would never do it again

As already said by others, swap the drivetrain.

Do you have access to a 2 poster or decent lifting set up, if so sway the body, if not, swap the drivetrain

    OK then

Cheers everyone. Looks like about 50/50 either way.

Think I'm going to go the drive train route.

BTW can someone explain what IMO is?

    Regards

    IMO - In My Opinion

Both methods are a lot of work. I have discovered the hard way that the better your gear the easier the job. Cranes and hoists make the job so much easier and faster!
Evey time I do a major job on one of the vehicles now I buy the next bit of kit. I hope to set up a proper workshop as out hear it's an hour's drive to the nearest Landy mechanic. I also only take my vehicles to a mechanic as a last resort so they have to be trailered by them as they are often in bits by then.
