I had trucks with air/hydraulic braking systems and they were a PIA. Go full air/mechanical with spring parking/emergency brakes on the rear chambers. I also have a pretty low opinion of Telma retarders. My personal opinion is that their place is on passenger carrying vehicles, motor omnibuses, where the noise of a Jake is not welcome.

the Jake is pretty much and on/off brake where as the exhuast brake can be staged AND used in conjunction with the Jake to help quietn down the noise.

I prefer Air brakes BUT... by putting the mog air side and master cylinder in place of the master cylinder of a normal rover you maintain the ABS and TC. Doable in theory on an Air system but have you seen how much air ABS air brakes chew when working? Imagine having your TC doing the same thing....

Im a big fan of the talmar brake system (the electrical eddy current ones NOT the hydraulic jobbies), set up correctly the 3 phase ones will pull up an 80t crane from 100-3kph quicker than the jake can through the auto box...
