    Rust removal

Ive recently discovered my discovery is a rust haven. Both front footwells are rusted and part of the transmission tunnel. I have looked at another vehicle to buy but thats subject to a finace decission. So if that fails Im faced with fixing the discos rust. has any one cut rust out of these things, any suggestions?

If you have, or know how to MIG weld then it shouldn't be a big problem. Cut out the rust with an angle grinder and weld in some new mild steel sheet. Because it will be covered under the carpets it won't matter if you overlap the sheet. This will make it easier to weld and also give it some more strength. Make sure that the steel is primed after you weld it, and then use plenty of brush on seam sealer around the welds followed up by a good coat of body deadener or stone guard. This should cover up all the nasty bits and stop it from further rusting. Also make sure yyou wire wheel any paint off any surface rust and give a go over with rust converter before giving it the same treatment.

    Hi Muddy digger.
I dont know if anyone else has heard of discos' rusting in those spots, as far as i know they are not typical which would make me wonder why yours is so bad there. Front inner wheel arches' and rear floors' are usually the places that need attention first.
There could have been damaged door seals or sunroof seal?? Or the vehicle could have been accident damaged and not properly repaired.
I would try to source the reason for the problem first. If it is just down to damaged seals then its probably a good weekends work to do the job properly. Make sure the fuel lines and brake lines are not in the way before cutting or welding anything! Dont take any short cuts there
Best of luck, i have spent far too many hours on frosty nights and wet weekends doing wonderful jobs like that
