take the lock barrel and/or the vehicle to a proper locksmith and they can cut you a key from the barrel.
Last one cost me about $30 for the rear tailgate and I got 2 keys.
Ok I have a 91 Rangie and my key must be rather worn, i got one cut but obviously its followed the same wear patterns, new key was actually worse then the old key.
So I have two blank keys sitting here and am wondering if there is a way to get the right key cut by LR or do I just have to put up with dodgy old worn keys?
Cheers

Or just try and flip the key over that you had made.
I say this since I too had the same thing happen. They ended up making a third one and checked and re-checked it against the original and found that there was a ridge right at the back of the key that didn't get ground down enough.
However, I decided to try the first one they made upside down ( flipped) and it worked! I have it as a spare as long as I remember that it will only work upside down.

Thanks guys, will try the upside down thing (pretty sure ive tried it heaps of ways and with both keys as I never looked for an upside or downside orientation when i insert the key).
I will be getting my two blank keys cut by a locksmith from the barrel.

A decent locksmith will have codes that allow him to cut a new key to suit the barrel not copying a worn key, worst case is new barrel and getting the door locks re coded to suit the new key.

A Land Rover dealer might be able to access the original key number for your car.
A decent locksmith will be able to cut the key from the number.
(That's assuming the locks are originals)
You can PM me the last 6 of your VIN & I can check if there's a key number listed.

I've never needed to play with ignition barrels, but if anything like door barrels, there is no need to go to a locksmith to make a suiting key, you can take any key thats in the same style, pull the lock apart insert the key and file off any of the bronze tabs that potrude out of the barrel stopping it from turning

If the ignition is worn, you key is too narrow and may start getting jamed in the ignition. A good locksmith will take the time to cut a fat key from a fatter blank but with your pattern. The trouble is this new key may not fit you doors so you need both keys on your keyring.
