    Roller Draws for Xtreme

    Hello everyone
I haven't been on the site for a while because we have been doing a little cruisin around Oz.
We have decided it would be great to have a roller draw fitted in the back of the landy. Hello 80kg and $2,000 later.
To much for us, has anybody got any suggestions or plans for making a single roller draw for the xtreme.
We also had the upgrade chip fitted and it is the best thing that we have ever done for the old girl, can reccomend it to any one.
I also had the back door close on me, not a nice experience, any suggestions there.
    regards
    Sandra

Roller drawers are simple to make if you know know to measure and cut, or get a cabinetmaker to cut, plywood. Ply is cheap and strong and can be bought lightweight. It depends on what timber the veneers were cut from. I have seen some really light material that is a sandwich of hardwood veneer on the outside and poplar in the middle.

As far as the roller mechanism goes, have a look at suppliers' web sites and some suppliers sell direct to the public. If they don't, order through a cabinetmaker.

Fixing it in will be important as you don't want a box mid air looking for a place to land.

The back door issue is a real nightmare. Ever since Rover put the spare on the rear door it has never worked. I used to keep a suitable length of rope in the back and tie the sucker back to the rear wheel area.

I could not see the pics in the first link.

I like the gas strut in the second link, does it actually hold the door open or just slow it down when closing?

I tried a gas strut .. ta Weeds . The brackets didn't last the distance

My current solution is a length of broom handle almost full opening long (on the diagonal). Wack a rubber bizzo on each end (Clark Rubber) then it goes above me from the back of the door opening out to the door. Should work and it's more or less up there and out of the way

the gas strut hold the door good on flat ground, any side slope and it struggles and that without a spare wheel, i must drop back in and get it charged with a bit more gas

hey rosco, i have had no problems with my brackets...did you use stainless, i didn't make my brackets

    Yep
I reckon the top of the body above the door must be different on mine than yours ... later model means less meat p'raps

Forget about getting yours recharged ... ya can have mine . Remember .. it's the double action jobbie so the door won't fling ya across the road if it wacks you whilst closing. Let me know if you'd like it and it's yours

If you ended up with the same open/close lengths as mine I would gladly give it a go...I was kicking myself for not getting a double action one from the start

I will shoot you an email over the next few days

Which city do you guys live? I made a flat deck with a single roller draw plus a flip open lid on the right hand side where the door hinge restricts the movement of the draw.
    Very simple to make.

Not a very clear picture but you will get the idea.
