Hi folks, have put a kit through a 34ICH Weber carby, as the old Zenith gave up the ghost. Have problems with setting the tab that sets the fuel to flow into the fuel bowl. Crank the engine over, no fuel in the bowl. It has a new fuel pump, and have held that to one side to see if fuel is coming through, which it is, and have blown air through the fuel inlet pipe to the top cover of the carby, and tickled the float up and down to see if air passes through, which it does, no blockages there either, reassemble all of the above, no start, no fuel in fuel bowl. Have tried to include photos, I'm not very computer savvy, so apologies for any errors. If anyone has ideas on measurements for setting up float tab etc, that would be much appreciated. Thanks very much, Ben. PS - engine is 2.25l Landrover motor, Ser. 3. Weber 34ICH carby.
no experience with these carbs, but plenty with motorcycle carbs with float bowls.
I'd keep bending the tab that pushes the needle closed down until you get flow.
Is there a float hight setting procedure for this carb? or do you set fuel level to the top of the float bowl? The second was easy to set on bikes.
Does this carb have a drain screw with a nipple on the bottom for a drain hose? On the bikes, I hooked up a clear tube to the nipple (brushcutter fuel line) and held it up the side of the carb. Opening the drain valve, fuel runs up the tube to the same level as the fuel in the float bowl, you can directly measure the fuel height from there. Then you re adjust the tab and check again until you have it right.
Hi Procrastination Inc, thanks for the help, unfortunately, no drain screw, I too have had motorbikes, Kawasaki's and had similar items to help, have had mate come over to assist with adjusting tab, with success! fuel now entering fuel bowl and the old girl is running again, Thanks again, Cheers, Ben.
I tried a 34ICH on a 2.25 and no matter what I did, it was always gutless. Ended up giving up on it and going with a Stromberg. Would be curious to know if was just me or the carb I had...............
I can recall reading in a UK mag many years ago that the Weber is a smaller carb ( smaller venturi) than the Solex, so has poorer performance up high than the Solex.
