Thanks for the replies and advice thus far fellas.

Will be checking (and replacing) coil and condenser this afternoon anyway, when I get home, as I had these ready to go.
Carby seems to be operating OK, feeding fuel OK etc, and electrical issue would seem logical.

Will check other suggestions as I go and let you know.

    G'day FenianEel

To check the ign at the points, with cap off, remove the rotor, and with points closed, turn on ign switch, with small screwdriver, open points, you should see a small spark, as they open,if not, check the condensor /pigtail wire at the points post if you have spark, recheck the setting 0.015 thou inch (036-040 mm) if that checks out and fuel is suspected, the Stromberg BXOV carb setting for mixture is mixture screw in to touching then out 1 1/4 -1 1/2 turns that will get it started, a Series 3 without anti pollution gear is 6 degrees BEFORE TDC. with anti pollution gear 3 degrees AFTER TDC.

there is not a lot of stuff that can go wrong in setting up a 2.25 litre providing the Distributor has not been removed.

    cheers

to isolate the carby disconnect and plug the fuel line so fuel does not go everywhere.

    .
remove the lead from the dizzy and the #1 plug
use the plug lead to connect the #1 plug directly to the coil and ground the threads onto the engine and in such a way as you can see it spark when you crank it over or manually operate the points.

if yovue got spark cool reassemble the HT electrics, pour about 1/2 capfull of fuel onto a rag stretched tightly over the top of the carby and secured so it cant be sucked in then wind it over. it should give you a sign of life at that point.

    a quick note....

IF the condensor is dying IT might give an occasional spark but it wont keep doing it over a protracted basis.

This may seem elementary - but just check you have the leads on the right plugs - if you have them in reverse order it may not even try to start.
