    Land Rover GTR

Has anyone used or subscribes to the Land Rover Global Technical Reference (GTR) - http://www.landrovertechinfo.com/

As part of researching a replacement to my D2a I'm considering a D3 or 07 Defender or RRS. The thing is I don't think you can any longer get something nice and portable like RAVE CD's for workshop manuals etc. My understanding is this is the replacement. I believe with Rovacom and the right literature ownership in a remote area shouldn't be an issue. The other alternative is to just buy a Ttttttooooyyy

So anyone using the GTR, what's it like, how good/bad etc????

Used it for over 2 years.

Its where I have gotten all my manuals from for a total cost of $0. Only really good for operators manuals, not workshop etc..

    I use it reasonably regularly.

I've found it to be very good. Has a full D3 workshop manual plus access to all the TSB's. Costs a couple of hundred US a year but it's worth it.

I've had to print our the TSB's before and take them to the dealer to prove that they exist!

    Excellent resource!

I've got a faultmate sv now as well. It's functionality is on the basic side, but BB claim it will improve as they further develop modules.

Thanks Jamo, that's the sort of feedback I was hoping for. I think you're in a similar situation to me with closest computer system being several hundred km's away.

I take it printing the information isn't a big issue. Can you print out full manuals or just sections?

I thought the Faultmate SV had the same diagnostic ability as the other VSE's, just that it was licenced to a single vehicle. I've got RovacomLite and would just need to upgrade to the new vehicles TUP codes to access the D3 diagnostics so I must admit I haven't looked to much at the newer VSE's from BBS.

GTR is what we use exclusively for technical information for Land Rovers. There is no alternative, paper manuals haven't been printed for years.

Derek, I've had no problem with printing.

I think the problem with faultmate and the D3 is the D3. The CANBUS is quite complex. They have to work out how to further access things.

You can tell the D3 to clear fault codes, but whether it decides to or not is up to it.

It probably is the Faultmate, I wonder if the Rovacomlite VSE suffers as badly - I'll have to get back to their forum and see what's mentioned. I'd suspect it's probably more than the CANbus that's the issue as there are multiple bus architectures in the D3 comms (I believe) and some are of the traffic rates are aparently very high. The VSE only samples these events which is why I suspect a clear fault command sometimes gets missed
