Just had a look at the Series 3 parts book - the S3 109 and 88 after 1980 have a different nut, with no flats on it - but still with a split pin, so the answer is no.

Just replaced the o-rings on the old style Selectro hubs on my Series III and discovered one of the cam lifting rings inside has been broken by someone tightening the retaining screws against the ring and not in the holes made to hold the screw end. Couldn't weld it up as it is some sort of alloy, not steel, so tried to fit a later model hub that has the selector in the centre and not the whole outside end.
Good plan except the round nut on the axle end is castellated and needs a split pin to hold it in place. Using the newer hubs, it doesn't seem possible to fit a split pin in there.
Does anyone know if later model Land Rover axle nuts are self lockers or will I have to persevere with a split pin?

Hmmm... Why didn't I think of that. Pity as it's going to make a simple job very tricky.
It is quite possible that the later selectro hubs supplied a self locking nut - and you should be able to get one, it'll be a standard thread, although I don't know what size.

Hi John
I got a spare for mine from 4wd in Melb, try them. They charged me $35 or something ridiculous.
I actually never fitted it but not ready to quit it as yet as the hubs it was bought for are still on a landy in my shed.
You may get a spare complete hub from a member.
I have a set of selectros on a stage1 Ive bought,DONT REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE DOING ON THERE!!!!(constant 4x4)
They may come up for sale later on,as I wonder if a standard SER diff has been fitted.
Im sure others here will have one for you!!!!

If anyone has an old unit no longer needed please contact me, if someone hasn't already tightened the holding screws incorrectly and broken the cam ring, that is.
I have contacted Mile Marker in the States but the guy who replied didn't sound like he had even seen one of these things.....
I also found replacements on another site which suggested they were made of steel, not alloy as the originals were, but their freight charges were a minimum $49.00 US. Still waiting to hear if they can do better.
Anyway I managed to get it back together and it seems to work but I don't have a lot of confidence in it now so might start looking for a replacement nut to fit the later versions more easily.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.
