    What Rangie Motor?

    Hi all,
My father in laws 1983, 3.5 carbied V8 has finally died.
A diesel replacement is the plan, but which one?

The Rangie is an 83 4 door with a Borg Warner auto box.
I have encouraged the F.I.L to ditch the box with the motor.

Firstly, F.I.L really wants to keep this Rangie so suggestions of selling for a different model don't work.
Automatic is also his preferred driveline

TD5 motor is unrealistic for cost and a headache fitting for this vehicle.
I am thinking of a 300tdi motor or an older Isuzu.

Suggestions for the type of conversion, cost of components and supplier would be greatfully welcomed.

The conversion will be done by the two of us and we have equipment for all the likely mods required.

    Thanks.

Would it not be easier and cheaper to fit a good second hand, later model V8 and Auto?

They are cheap and there are plenty around.

Yep i aggree a later V8 and ZF auto can be had at a verry reasonable price tho if it must be a deso and auto he's best bet would be a 300TDI and slush box to match tho if he can put up with a manual a 4BD1 and LT95 is tha go

    Ok

    Thanks for the replies.
Have been offered a good deal on a 4BD1 with an LT95. and will certainly be taking the motor. F.I.L would still like the auto box.

If this becomes too hard the 4BD1 & LT95 package will be the go,
    BUT........
Can a ZF 4spd auto be easily mated to the 4BD1 with a factory bell housing etc. or is custom adaptor neccessary?
I know performance will be down with an auto compared with the manual, but will it be miserable, poor or average?

    Thanks

Search for posts by JustinC. I think he went through a few ZFs before changing to an LTxx.
