is the update worth the lack of dash storage space?? airbags not withstanding--
everything slides off the newer dashes

if the D2 still had the passenger grab handle,, I wouldnt have side steps

I can't picture the early D1 dash but my D1 update doesn't have airbags so I still have a grab handle and a storage area behind the grab handle.

You need some of that rubber matting. Don't know what it is called but looks a little like a packaging wrap. Just place it on the dash and put your sunnies or phone etc on it and they will not slide or move at all. Great stuff.

Not wanting to hijack the thread - it goes like this - always wanted to buy a new Range Rover but could never afford one so in Jan 94 buys the new model Disco just released - the interim model

2 weeks later driving along and I see this different Disco - better dash, different front, lights in the rear bumper (an early test update)

2 weeks later I read about a new updated disco in the mags - hey - I have just bought the new model - how can they release a new, newer model when I have just paid $42K for the latest model that has just been released.

I race into the dealer - yep new model on the way - hmmm I got a 15% discount off the price of the one I bought - negotiate - will you also give me the same discount if I order a new model? - yep - you are now a bulk Disco buyer. So I order site unseen but $6k changeover.

Old car is 6 weeks old with 3000km - hmm maybe I can sell before people become aware a new model is around, afterall I did get a good discount off the $49K retail price - result sold the car privately 2 weeks later for $1k more than I paid for it.

Got the new update in the first shipment - in early May 1994 - changeover only worked out about $1k.

Hence I know all about this interim model Hence in my signature block below you will see two 94 3.9 discos but only one is an update.

As a side the last of the 3.5s are the 93MY, the interim model is the 94MY and the update is the 95MY (even though it was released in Apr/May 94)

PS - I liked the orange 3.9 decals so I bought some for my update - so if you see a blue update with orange decals - it used to belong to me.

Garry and all the others that replied, THANKS for the help, my 06/93 Disco has 24 spline axles, but as they are Maxi Axles and Flanges and both ends have ARB Lockers I would say they were upgraded to 24 spline. The front CV's are from a 110, how do I identify them compared to the stockers, are they oil or grease lubed, have not pulled them apart yet, are the 93 Disco seals and front wheel bearings different to 110 front hub bearings or would it have 110 bearings and hubs along with the 110CV's, if there is a difference can anyone point it out, Thanks in advance, Regards Frank.

Easy to tell the CV's apart
110 have slightly bigger bell and integral stub
Disco would have had 32 spline inner axle with the 10spline separate stub.

As for oil or grease - I run oil, general consensus agrees here for various reasons such as better/more consistent overall lubrication and you can also see when your hub/swivel ball seals require replacing (as they'll be leaking oil) so they don't let water or other contaminants in.

Bearings - unsure I'll leave that to someone who has done the CV conversion.
