Are you still able to use the discovery front covers that mould to the shape of the armrest?

You will have to prise the grilles off the speakers and put the door grilles on the new speaker.

UKLRO, where did you get the speakers from? Last time I replaced my speakers they were still **** so I might try some different ones.

You can use the stock grill covers if you want. Pioneer ones are nice though!!
I got them from a local hi fi shop but have seen the same ones in Repco.

My Disco1 has had all the speakers replaced by the previous owner with Kenwood 4in. They are okay but I don't know if they are any better than factory ones. How good can it get with only a 4in?
The front speakers still utilise the factory mount that moulds to the door handle.

I put some Focal 4" speakers in the front doors behind the factory grills and some Alpine 4" in the rear for fill. There is no comparison with the $2 factory speakers in the D1. Being so small they lack bass but the sub takes care of that.

well i have rockford fosgate 4" speakers in place of my factorys, when they were first fitted they were ok but now i have them running through an amp, i personally think for the size the clarity is really really good....

often have to turn down if i dont know the song well as i think something is squeeking or rattling in the car its not its just coz the speakers are so dam clear..........

4" do not do base well fit a small sub somewhere

    Rare 5" speakers

I was nearly going to install 4" Blaupunkts to replace my D1 OEM 4" front and rear speakers.

I then came across this gem.

They are from US manufacturer Polk Audio and are a rare offering of a 5" coaxial rated at 135w peak and 45w RMS continuous.

They fit (just) using existing D1 speaker grills and (inc front door surrounds). I installed some dynamat behind speakers inc ditching the plastic surround rubbish behind fronts.

They are around $120 / pair which is superb value. If you in Brizzy Complete Car Sound at Enoggera have them in stock
