    Td5 D2 aircon

    Now is it just me?

With climate control off (i.e. in ECON mode) I always seem to get slightly warm air coming out of the air vents, even if I set the temp control to 16deg.

This is especially pronounced from the footwell vents and the forward section of the centre console actually ends up quite hot..now while this is very nice in winter...it's starting to s*** me now the weather is warming up (but not enough to justify the aircon) and can almost be too hot if I rest my leg against the console.

Is this normal? Why don't I just get external/ambient temp air through the vents?

    Cheers
    Mike

MY 01 D2 TD5 does exactly the same thing.
    No aircon = warm/hot air

No fan and whole system off = warm/hot air

Should the air coming through be outside air temp and not warm?

My D2 did this as well,,, what i used to do was turn it on cold, not on econ mode, set it to its lowest temp then turn it off and the hot air would stop, just outside temp air would come through then.... never knew why it was like that, but it always used to bug me.

This is true, and i have tried running the car on Econ mode to see if there was a difference is power and economy, nothing no difference, if i did, i didn't notice it.

    I also did the up hill test;

5th gear going up a hill with aircon on, halfway up, turn it off, result, no difference, then did it the other way, aircon off, then turn it on, same result, no difference

I would of bet my left knacker it would of made a difference, lucky i didn't take that bet

I've noticed it too but assumed that the air intake system is being soaked by heat from the firewall.

Yeah there was a thread on here about a year ago about this and from memory, the above is what was suggested. Also try turning the system on and switching it to windscreen vent and then turning it off. I think this disables the foot well vent.

Very annoying though as like you, I just want outside cool air coming through the vents when the system is off and to have the ability to shut the whole flow of air off.

Yes mine is the same. I have given up and have just run the aircon for the past month or so. I expected a slight in crease in fuel usage but there doen't seem to be any. Probably gone through at least 6 tanks full of diesel with no increase in consumption, so Ill just stick to nice cool air

    Cheers
    Keith
