Any cheap economy mods Disco 1 V8

Hi all, MAF problem a lot better after a clean out, completely different vehicle. Now the million dollar question. Have been researching re possible economy boosters. Have fitted pod filter, any other cheap mods thinking exhaust, Read about ecu chips but could find nothing on v8. Also lots of negatives on those piggy back jobs. are they worth the effort or should i just carry a spare jerry can. Thinking gas conversion at later date. Any hints ??

Do a search for the oxygen sensor install that PhillipA did. Probably the only real fuel saving mod you can do apart from LPG.

i don't think there is much you can do,
exhaust mods only make it sound better and any economy gain is lost in performance testing and note listening.
a new maf sensor will be the best thing you can do with a tune up from a real land rover specialist.
lpg will reduce your daily spend on fuel, but at what installation cost?, and you lose space, and in a disco there isn't much to spare.
a snorkel would give you cooler intake air to which the computer will add more fuel,
learning to drive economically is your best bet, and i am still coming to terms with that, however i do try to drive shorter distances, like taking the shortest line thru corners etc, never shows at the bowser though, and reducing the 'keep up with the' holdens and fords at the lights, although a disco will do that [if they don't know you are trying]

I converted mine to LPG. Manifold tank on the floor in the back and the original petrol tank is still underneath. So you have economical running in town and longer range on trips.
I'll fit a long range tank if I can come across one at a good price. Then I won't have to fill up as often and that makes it more economical right

    all of the above---
    plus,
make sure its tuned,, as in, thermostat is working, plugs are in good nick,
leads are tested, no hose leaks,

a rover V8 will get about 5 miles per gallon untill its HOT,, then it gets slightly more--.

    get it hot quick---

Yep, Stat is a big one....
the Disco we sold used be shcoking then we got a new Stat and Bingo... from 25l/100 to 20l/100

the gauge used to read just over 1/2

if the stat is stuck open (common) then the car runs cool and the ECU thinks its cold and enrichens it... more fuel......

    Simple mods

I have a owned since new a V8 D1 and one of the first to hit our shores 13 years ago.

Simple mods of a high level air intake, K&R filter and headers. Then a Mark Adams Tornado chip (non cat replacement chip from UK) and a diet of 98 RON activates that simple package very nicely.

Have to say she sounds sweet-as and pulls like a train.
