Not saying it can't be done, I'm wondering whether it should be done.

Isn't the point of it to reduce harmonic vibrations from the engine damaging the rest of the driveline or something? What long term damage results from removing it?

OK, so I checked with Jaimie from All Ranges 4wd and he can do the clutch for $2K even. This includes a new clutch pack and new flywheel - genuine parts. The rest is labour.

He said the clutch pack is RRP about a grand and so is the flywheel but he can get a special deal from Karcraft and the rest of the cost is his labor.

This sounds better than $3K...what do people think? Is there anything else that might need or should be done while he has the box out? He is going to check main rear seal and the seals on the transfer case while he is there.

    Hi,
should be around $300 + GST for a Valeo clutch kit and if you replace the fly wheel extra $711 + GST for that.

Personally I would check the flywheel when it comes out if its ok leave it as it is.

    Probably around 6hr labour.

    Cheers

As above and said before. Clutch kits are cheap around $340. A new flywheel is a bit different and will take total for parts to about $1k. $2k is still a bit pricy but better than $3k. I have to ask if you really need to replace the flywheel. Not common that this has to be replaced.
Have you though about doing it yourself?

Don't just check the seals, do them regardless.
