    Urgent help required

Hi all, To PhilipA, the motor is a may 02 build wth the curved top.
What I'm going to do tomorrow is to replace the plugs and from what I've read from this website and googling is that a VN commodore pump will fit, fortunately a mate has 2 of them and is giving me 1 to try.
I suppose my question is, does the vn pump fit and work the same, or does it need any changing or modification. ?

    Richardh,

Sorry to say.. but I suspect the suggestion about a crank angle sensor sounds pretty likely to me... My V8 DII had one die at around 120,000 Km..

Mine was an intermittantant starting issue... then ran fine once started. It would then just cut out and be imposible to start..( usually cut out when engine revs dropped right down.... like coming up to a stop sign)... I though it was a fuel issue.

No real way to "hot wire it"...unlike a car with a distributor... this is what tells the system when to fire the plugs etc.... it it dies totally it will be a tow truck job....

In my case it was not showing as a fault on testbook... but my mechanic had seen this before and suggested we swap it as a test.... he was right.

I know it's a pain.. but as the guys have suggested I'd get it to a specialist.

The VN pump fits all 14CUX , BUT the Disco 11 Motronic runs at a higher pressure than the Disco 1 or RRC.I think 3.5 Bar vs 2.5 bar.
I do not know whether the VN pump will pump a high enough pressure.
I do know the pump/regulator/gauge set is preeeetty expensive. Maybe Justin knows.
    Regards Philip A

That will be big bucks for the poor man, unless he can get another unit to try.

Anyone have a spare or some ideas?

The unit that replaced mine was secondhand and about $70-$100 by memory ....maybe if you can get your hands on someone elses V8 DII you could try a swap and see what happens?..

Yup, Phillip is right, the VN pump is not suitable. The pump is not easily replaced, as you have to cut open the pump body to fit a new one. Best is to try a known working one if poss, because as soon as you open the new pump box you own it, and they are expensive. I think from memory around $350 to $450? (More from LR. A LOT more.)

Sorry to give you bad news, I hope this isn't the problem, but then again it is at least an easy one to fix, albeit expensive
They do suffer from Air flow meter failures, but this will just usually produce a poor cold start and run, and an overall lack of power, won't actually STOP the engine though.

1998 P38 is pre Bosch Motronic, they CAN use the VN pump

Another annoying thing is the P38 requires the tank to be dropped down from memory, unlike the Disco and RR where you can get through the floor.
