    It begins....

    The fitting out of my very stock '97 D1 that is.
    Im starting from scratch, both in terms of knowledge and gear - so kindly indulge me a few basic starter questions.

    1. I have read all four pages of every thread on recovery points.
    My challenge is this....has anybody, anywhere ever found a recovery point that will fit and work with the stock Disco bumper bar. The 1st time I get snatched, the strap / bridle is going to rip my plastic bumper a new one.
    I have an ECB Nudge bar that holds up my spotties.

    2. Looking for suggestions on the most suitable workshop manuals, Haynes??? Im a rank beginner.

    Best I can suggest is the chassis mounts from www.troutbecksales.com

    You're still going to jeapordise the lower plasitic bits on the front though. However if you are going to go off-roading best thing is to remove centre plasitic bit below the bumper and then take a saw to the lower portion of the plastic bumper end pods. Otherwise you'll just end up damaging the whole lot anyway.

    Workshop manual: Buy the RAVE LR workshop manual on CD from the markets section. It has everything LR publish about the Disco. Better info and better value than Haynes or the paper version. Also think about buying the EPC (Electronic parts catalog) as being able to quote part numbers helps considerably - and the EPC shows exploded diagrams so you know what goes where.

    If you're doing any half serious offroad stuff the stock front bumper is most likely going to get damaged anyway, climbing over logs, rocks etc.

    If you could afford it, an ARB or TJM steel bullbar is the way to go. They come up from time to time in the second hand market. Then, you can store your pristine front stock bumber and put it back on when it is time to sell the car, and flog the bullbar on e bay.

    Of course with the bullbar you can then fit the recovery points too.
