    Exclamation TD5 Injector Circuit Open!.

    G'day all,

A mate of mine is having some complications with his TD5 Disco, and I thought some of you may be able to help, here's his email to me:

Now the other more important thing is my Land Rover, it came out of warranty a while ago and I have had loads of trouble with it. What it does driving along is it loses power. I just have to turn the ignition off and start it straight away and it is fine (does it randomly), when the computer is put on it, it says 'injector circuit open' on all five cylinders. The ECU was changed, the injectors were replaced the guy checked every wire from the ECU to the injectors and it is still doing it, getting quite expensive. Do you know any one or heard of any one who has experienced this problem (Series 2 Discovery TD5), would be much appreciated as the guy here (Brisbane)is pulling his hair out in frustration and I am getting close with the amount of money I am spending on it.

    Anyone shed any light?...thanks

bad earths is the first stop. then check the alternator for ac ripple in its output. the next likely place after that is a poorly fittted connector on the front of the donk.

mine would show up open circuit on the injectors, this was due to the oil in the harness problem fault codes went away when I sealed it all up, problem is sometimes these codes can lead you down the wrong path the fault may only last a few miliseconds but the computer will still log it even though it does not effect the engine,

Start looking else where for the fault it may have nothing to do with the engine as blacknight has suggested, where abouts is your mate is he near the gold coast??

The earth for the ecu is just in front of the fuse box near where the battery is earthed - easy to check that its tight.

hopefully your mate didn't replace the injectors when the old ones were fine - that would be expensive!

Thanks for all the info, No A/C ripple from the alternator, earths have been checked a few times, there was oil in the harness but it is now all sealed up, please pass this on to the guys, they may have more info.

    Anyone shed any light?.

    Thanks again......

I wonder whether the computer diagnostic messages are helping him or hindering.

Does he get the engine warning light coming on when the engine loses power? I had a misfiring problem, which turned out to be the throttle potentiometer. (TPS). This, along with the oil in harness problem, is a very common cause of engine misfiring in the TD5. It took quite a bit of diagnosing, and we only got a positive indication when the problem got bad enough to trip the warning light, and leave a fault code in the ECU.

Could it be that the software he is using to read the fault codes is giving a misleading indication?

    Cheers,

    Lionel

if hes in the brissy area and has some time to kill in the evenings Im happy to have an eyeball and do the old school checks on all the common culprits...

It might just be a case of the fault not clearing out of the computers memory, I havent heard of this previously on the TD5 but I have on some of the holdens so Id assume that at its at least technical possability. Has he tried using a different system to check/clear the faults?
