OMG i can answer this..... Why??? I'm a Fridgy........

    Have i beaten Ladas???

My bet... Low Gas pressures due to lack of gas

The Volvo i have runs fine on idle with the AC running and as soon as you hit the loud peddle it stops.. WHY??
Easy the higher Revs means the compressor accually start being efficiant and the pressures drop, if its low it will trip the Low Pressure (LP) switch and stop working...... then on idle the compressor becomes inefficiant due to its low RPM and does not pump as well so the pressure rises and the LP kicks back in and due to it not pumping as well the pressures dont pull down the best...

If i'm wrong then i'll buy you a Beer.

He does mention at the beginning, that the gas charge was 'allegedly ' ok, but they "did put a couple of squirts into it" so in theory it should be ok.

    Possibly.

But the only way to know is to have Gauges on.. if there not on then your guessing.....

Years ago we used the sight glass to see if it was charged....

Now day the pressures and temp's tell the story...

although if he has a sweaty cold suction line (and the TX is ok) the gas charge wouldn't be too far out.

Well guys I think we found the problem.
Ladas was kind enough to do a pressure test and pressures were ok. By bypassing the pressure switch we had cold air ( so it appears to be a sticking/faulty pressure switch.)
once again thanks all for your replies and thanks Ladas for your assistance.
