I'll probably get slapped down here but I believe that exceeding that weight is fine when stationary so a rooftop tent with two on board is fine.

The weight restriction is the safe limit when the vehicle is on the move. Think of it like the coils on your Disco, when you enter a dip in the road, the weight of the car pushes down against the resistance of the coils and shocks. Well, with a rack there is no suspension so all the weight is pushing down on the roof guttering. Likewise when the vehicle lifts over a rise in the road for instance, the rack is trying to pull the guttering off.

I think of that scenario when I see 6 jerries, 2 spare tyres and storage boxes on the roof of some 4WDs.
