If its like the D3, you've open the door with the keys in the ignition.

When the lights are off the dash lights are off, but they don't dim between parking lights and low beam if thats what you mean ?

No, it only shuts up when I have the key in the ignition and the immobiliser turned off, but if the immobiliser is on then it doesn't make a difference if the key is in or not.

Maybe it is a faulty circuit in the ignition barrel, any ideas where to look first ? there's more than a few wires coming out of that area

It's the Keys in the ignition ping thingy.

There is a wire that goes to a contact in the barrel that needs to be cut...

Damn annoying noise anytime you are camping and trying to listen to the UHF with the door open so I cut mine.

Edit : The immobiliser must be bypassing the contact so maybe my solution may not work, it has worked on mine though.

Cut the purple/white wire attached to the ignition barrel in a black two pin multi plug, it goes to a sensor on the barrel itself. The only problem is it cuts off the headlamp warning too, which is quite useful

thanks everyone its finally been muted.

I'm not too worried about the headlight warning gone, I've been ignoring any pings coming from the car since I bought it.
