Then why checker plate, why not plain flat plate right from the beginning?

I've ruined a couple of heavy duty kit bags because of checker plate. It's very abrasive and unless your loads are strapped down extremely well it will chaff through everything.
Checker plate is not designed for load bays...it's called tread plate for good reason...made as an anti slip surface to walk on.

I'd go with the smooth side up if I was doing my tub again.

Here's the tub of my 130 after I'd fitted it prior to kitting out the cargo bay with a new cab.
Sure..it looks pretty but it's destructive stuff.

    Regards.

Are you using alloy or steel checker plate? The steel plate isn't nearly as bad at destroying things as the alloy.

I used 5mm alloy treadplate for the floor of my trailer, check side up, and to protect the load I also laid down the foam floor squares Kmart etc sell for camping. So far so good

    Hi Guys
    Thanks for the replys.
    CHECKERS DOWN is the go.
    Bmac,its steel.
Shorty,$$$ is the answer!!! 2.1 mm steel checker is a fair bit cheaper than 2.0mm galv, plus its probably marginally stronger with the checkers. Was happy to go Galv as the rest of the trailer is,but went with the local boilermakers advice.
    The sides are 1.55 galv.

    I know that one.

I'm lucky that way, my landlord drives a scrap metal truck.
LOTS of treasures in the back sometimes.
Got some nice stuff for bash plates last week.
